Teens
1) Enroll in Driver’s Ed online, and get the certificate of completion.
2) Take that certificate to the DMV, with your birth certificate, social security card, parents’ utility bill or similar proof of residency, and about $37. Take your permit test.
3) Begin driving lessons with a driving school. (Call or text 805-260-1922 to schedule.) Your permit will be validated on the first lesson.
4) Drive with your parents for 50 hours. After you’ve had your permit for 6 months, practiced 50 hours, and completed your 6 hours of driving lessons, schedule your behind-the-wheel test with the DMV.
Adults
Study the Driver’s Handbook from the DMV. There is an online version on the DMV website. Take the learner’s permit test. Before taking the drive test, you need to have a permit and practice driving. You may need as few as 3 lessons with us if you have someone to practice with. If not, you could need up to 5–15 lessons. We try to teach you as much as possible in a short amount of time to help you be a safe and skilled driver!
Adult Brush-up Lessons
If the DMV requires you to re-test behind-the-wheel, we can help you prepare! 85% of seniors that take the test without a lesson first will fail. We know how vital your driver’s license is to your independence. Even if you’ve taken it and failed, you can make a new start. We will help you learn the new regulations and requirements. Our instructors are on your team to pass! If you only need to refamiliarize yourself with driving, we’re here to help.
